Spinach Puree

This simple recipe may seem random but this is one of our favorite ways to color pasta. It is simple and adds a vibrant color to the dough (not to mention some extra nutrients). Spinach puree can also be used to color eggs, bread, or basically anything you can think of. It really doesn’t change the flavor which is the main reason we love it!

Spinach  Purée

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c water

  • 3 c spinach, stems removed

Directions

  • Place spinach and water in a sauce pan over medium heat.
  • Cover and cook 3 minutes.
  • Remove spinach from pan reserving liquid.
  •  Rinse spinach in cold water.
  • Place spinach and cooled water in a blender. Blend until smooth.

Notes

  • Add to pasta, pancakes, eggs, soup, bread, etc for extra nutrients or for natural food coloring.
